Prepararatory actions and planning

A. Preparatory actions, elaboration of management plans and/or of action plans
 
A.1 Acquisition of data for forest habitat assessment
 
The action implies combined inventories and assessment of conservation status of forest habitats and species of European Union concern by:
  • remote sensing data acquisition for ca 27 500 ha;
  • ground survey of forest habitats and data collection on specially protected species for ca 9000 ha.
 
A.2 Elaboration of long-term forest habitat restoration and management programmes

There will be three programmes elaborated within the project:
  • Programme of the Hermit Beetle (Osmoderma eremita) will contain assessment of habitats suitable for the Hermit Beetle within whole area of the Gauja national park and will contain measures for management and restoration of the respective habitats;
 
  • Habitat restoration and management programme for Western Taiga (9010*) habitat will analyse conditions, structure and threats for each forest compartment and will outline priority regions for forest habitat restoration and management measures as well as describe best restoration and management methods both on long and short-term scale. It will be linked with forestry sector and contain advised forestry methods for improvement of forestry performance in the area;
 
  • Programme for Bog Woodland (91D0*) habitat will foresee measures for restoration of the natural hydrological regime for sites with altered hydrological regime due to former drainage systems.
 
A.3 Preparatory works for restoration of natural hydrological regime
 
The action will include elaboration and approval of technical project for engineering works related to restoration of hydrological regime of bog woodland habitat and obtaining of construction work permits.
